Clothing and armour slots in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Clothing in The Blood of Dawnwalker covers six slots and 357 pieces in total: 108 chestpieces, 67 trousers, 49 rings, 46 amulets, 45 pairs of boots and 42 bracers. Armour pieces carry toughness that scales with item level, while rings and amulets usually carry no toughness at all and exist purely for their stat modifiers.

Armour also comes in Light, Medium and Heavy types, and Coen takes a proficiency penalty for wearing a type or a rarity he has not trained for. That penalty lowers the stats of the piece by a percentage, so the heaviest chestpiece in the inventory is not automatically the right one to wear.

How toughness scales with item level

Toughness is multiplied by its own curve, which runs from 1.0 at level 1 to 6.88 at level 50. That is a flatter curve than the one weapons use, so armour gains value more slowly than swords do and a well rolled early chestpiece stays usable for longer than an early sword does.

Because every piece rolls at a level, the same item can be weak or excellent depending on when it is found. Each clothing page in The Blood of Dawnwalker lists the toughness and every modifier at the level you choose, so two pieces can be compared properly instead of guessing from rarity colour alone.

Bracers carry Claw Arts

Bracers are the one clothing slot that changes how Coen fights. Where weapons carry Weapon Arts, bracers carry Claw Arts, special attacks on a cooldown that are only usable while fighting with claws rather than with a sword. That makes the bracer slot the vampire form equivalent of a weapon choice.

The other five slots are pure stat platforms. Rings and amulets in particular carry percentage modifiers that scale on their own curves, covering everything from vampiric ability cooldown to damage against mortals, and they are the cheapest slots to upgrade: the ring slot multiplier is 0.56 against 1.4 for a weapon.

Day and night equipment presets

Some clothing is excellent in one form and useless in the other, so The Blood of Dawnwalker lets Coen save separate equipment presets for the human and vampire forms. The presets swap automatically at the start of every day and every night, and quickslots are saved as part of the preset.

That turns clothing into two builds rather than one. A daytime preset built around sword damage and physical resistance can sit alongside a night preset built around claw damage, blood regeneration and vampiric cooldowns, with no manual swapping at dusk.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many clothing pieces are in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

There are 357 obtainable pieces across six slots: 108 chestpieces, 67 trousers, 49 rings, 46 amulets, 45 pairs of boots and 42 bracers.

What do bracers do in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Bracers carry Claw Arts, special attacks on a cooldown that are only usable while fighting with claws. They are the claw equivalent of a weapon Art, so the bracer choice matters most in the vampire form.

Do rings and amulets give armour in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Almost never. Rings and amulets usually carry no toughness at all and exist for their stat modifiers, which is why they are compared on modifiers rather than on armour value.

How does armour toughness scale with level?

Toughness is multiplied by a curve running from 1.0 at level 1 to 6.88 at the level 50 cap. It is a flatter curve than weapon damage, so armour ages more gracefully than swords.

Can I have different gear for day and night?

Yes. The Blood of Dawnwalker saves separate equipment presets for the human and vampire forms, including quickslots, and swaps between them automatically at the start of each day and night.
