Everything Coen can read in The Blood of Dawnwalker
There are 823 readable writings in The Blood of Dawnwalker, split into 332 books, 290 notes and a further group of letters and loose documents. Each one is reproduced here with its full in-game text, exactly as it appears when Coen picks it up.
Most writings correspond to a readable item in the inventory, and where they do, the item page is the canonical version so the same text does not appear at two different addresses. Writings without a matching item are listed on their own, and entries with no text at all are left out of the index entirely.
Books, notes and what they are for
Books tend to carry the history and legends of Vale Sangora, while notes are shorter, more immediate and usually written by someone in trouble. Letters sit between the two and are often the only place a quest is explained from the other side.
Reading also pays. Many writings award experience the first time they are read, which turns a pile of notes found in a bandit camp into a small but genuine reward rather than pure flavour.
Writings, weight and the inventory
Readable items carry weight like anything else, and 579 of the items in The Blood of Dawnwalker are readable. Hoarding them is a reliable way to become overencumbered, which stops Coen running and blocks fast travel until the load is reduced.
Once read, most writings can be sold or stashed without losing anything, since the text stays available in the journal. Stashing at a shrine is the safer option for anything that might be quest related.
Reading the world of The Blood of Dawnwalker
The writings are where the setting explains itself. Vampire rule in Vale Sangora is described through tax notices, sermons, orders to soldiers and the private letters of people living under it, rather than through exposition delivered to Coen directly.
Because the texts are in-world documents, they contradict each other, and that is deliberate. Cross-reading the writings against the 81 glossary entries is the most reliable way to work out what is actually true in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
