Levels and experience in The Blood of Dawnwalker
The level cap in The Blood of Dawnwalker is 50. Level 2 costs 600 experience, and the requirement climbs by a small fixed step each level after that, so the early levels arrive quickly and the last ten take considerably longer.
Levelling grants skill points, usually one per level with a second at certain milestones, and those points are spent at shrines. Quests add another 133 skill points across the game, which is why quest completion in The Blood of Dawnwalker is a progression system and not a side activity.
Where experience comes from
Combat experience is paid by enemy size and scaled by the level difference between Coen and the target. A small enemy is worth 10, a default one 15, a big one 30 and a large one 60, rising through 150 for a mini boss, 300 for a boss, 600 for a huge boss and 1,200 for the largest.
That reward is multiplied by 0.3 when the target is four or more levels below Coen, stays at 1.0 within three levels either way, rises to 1.2 from four levels above and doubles from seven levels above. Farming trivial enemies does not work; fighting above your level does.
Quest experience tiers
Quest rewards in The Blood of Dawnwalker come from a fixed tier table rather than being written per quest, which makes them easy to compare. The full set of 205 quests and activities pays out 103,175 experience in total.
- Very small quest - 100 XP, or 175 for the plus variant
- Small quest - 250 XP, or 325 for the plus variant
- Medium quest - 500 XP, or 650 for the plus variant
- Large quest - 1,000 XP, or 1,300 for the plus variant
- Very large quest - 1,500 XP, or 1,800 for the plus variant
- Inspections and vistas - 25 to 250 XP depending on size
Corruption, blood and difficulty
Corruption is the vampire half of progression. It advances on blood segments drunk rather than on experience: the first level needs 5 segments, the second another 10, the third another 15, then 25 a level for several levels and rising from there. Coen starts with 2 blood segments worth 150 each.
The Blood of Dawnwalker ships four difficulty presets, Story, Immersive, Normal and Hard, and they change combat maths rather than only numbers. Story halves enemy health, cuts enemy damage to 40 percent and multiplies the parry window by 2.5, while higher difficulties raise enemy attack speed and shrink the parry window as Coen levels up.
